CENTRE FOR RESEARCH IN EDUCATION听
The Centre for Research in Education involves the participation of over 20 academic staff, as well as research students and associate members. It is a stimulus for capacity-building and for enabling staff to produce听research articles, theoretical and methodological articles, book chapters and books focused on matters pertinent to educational leadership, pedagogy, policy and curriculum. The centre supports academic and research staff鈥檚 efforts to听engage in听external funding bid, research council听grant applications听and facilitates discussions around partnership work aimed at developing knowledge exchange opportunities.鈥听
Existing research activities in the Division听of Education, including philosophies of education, early听years听development, teacher education, community education, academia, languages, minorities, values and citizenship听education听and widening access, are key areas of focus.鈥
Aims
The Centre听aims to act as a stimulus听for听research activity in the form of increased academic connectedness, increased volume of publications, increased funding applications, recruitment of research students and organisation of research student seminars. The Centre has secured funding from the Carnegie Trust and the Council of Europe and applications have also been submitted to ESRC, British Academy, Daiwa Foundation, HEA, Save the听Children,听the Higher Education Academy,听the听Society for Research into Higher听Education听and the Society for Educational Studies.听听
The Centre was established in April听2013.听Since 2013听colleagues have increased research activity, presented at national and educational research conferences and managed to secure a number of small and medium sized听research grants听from the Carnegie Trust, the Council of Europe, the British Academy and the Scottish Government with support offered by the Centre. The Centre has attracted just over 拢473, 000 from external research grants.听
Structure听
The Centre for Research in Education has three main research groups around which academic staff focus their research efforts. The two听groups are as follows听
1. Schools-based Educational Research Group听(S-BERG)听鈥 research focused on school related听education policy, policy-making and analysis; pedagogical research, teacher professional development, curriculum-making and听teacher education.听

2. Citizenship, Values and Holocaust Education Research 鈥撎Research focused on Citizenship听education听and political literacy development,听Values-based pedagogy, Holocaust Education- policy and practice听(Linked to the Vision Schools Scotland initiative)听and听Democratic classroom practices.
